As a realtor, I meet all kinds of people from all walks of life. It’s what makes my job so interesting. One duo that sticks out in my mind is Will and Cynthia. This mature couple had grown children and wanted to buy their first home together. They tried to buy previously, but their past circumstances prevented them from doing so. Today, they are proud homeowners – thanks to our collaborative effort and thinking outside the box as we meet challenges in our home-buying adventure.

It was love at first sight. When the husband viewed the home online, he just knew that it was the “one.” The single-story ranch was perfect for their needs. Unfortunately, it was a multiple offer situation. It’s one of the hardest things as a realtor to deal with. After months or sometimes years of searching, clients find the home they want and lose it over numerous other bids. I heard of a situation like this where the buyers wrote a letter to the seller. They told of their background and why this house was perfect for them. So, I asked the buyers to do just that. Guess what? It worked! The sellers accepted my clients’ offer quickly.

Why was this home so perfect for them? Well, it had an in-law suite that would be perfect for their son. He would have his own kitchen and bathroom area. It was in a quiet neighborhood that had a center bedroom that could function as an office. Since the husband worked from home, this was the ideal place for him. Their previous home was on a busy street with lots of traffic noise from a freeway, but this home was far from any hustle and bustle.

The sellers were very friendly people and so accommodating. There were some repairs needed to be done to the home that was also negotiated in the contract. Thanks to Monette Campos, the loan officer from Homestreet, Will and Cynthia secured their loan. Additionally, the lender gave them credit for closing costs too.

I picked up the keys for them the day escrow closed. Their happy faces were repayment enough. It was such a rewarding experience. It’s people like Will and Cynthia that make being a realtor so worthwhile. They have big plans and are excited to get busy with their home improvements. I can’t wait to see the transformation process. I will forever remember this happy couple and how writing a simple letter made all the difference in this transaction.
